Subchapter S Bank Association announces Exclusive mobile-Banking Partnership Promoting Unwired Banking, the Integration-Free Mobile Banking Solution for Community Banks

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Oct. 23, 2014 – The Subchapter S Bank Association today announced an exclusive relationship with Unwired Nation to promote the company’s Unwired Banking solution for mobile banking to more than 2,300 community banks in the US. The Association, dedicated to the promotion of issues affecting community banks organized as subchapter s taxable entities, made the announcement here at its 17th annual conference.

Kennedy, Jr., President of Subchapter S Bank Association. “In partnership with an industry-leading online banking provider, it has powered mobile-banking applications for community banks since 2011. Further highlighting the affordability of the platform, Subchapter S Banks and Unwired Nation have announced a discount exclusively for Subchapter S-type banks.

Unwired Banking, the mobile banking platform from Unwired Nation, was announced Oct. 23. Unwired Banking enables community financial institutions to extend their brand and personal banking relationships beyond brick and mortar to their retail customer’s smartphones.

Unwired Nation Closes $4.6 Million Angel-Led Series A (Corrected)

UWN Acquisition Corp (d/b/a Unwired Nation, Inc.), has closed its Series A financing led by Dale Quisenberry, co-founder of Crossroad Systems. 

The Company closed $4.6 Million in this round, with $1M in new capital, and $3.6M in converted debt. 

"We're excited to announce this round of funding. Unwired is bringing exciting mobile solution to market, and this round of funding will be used to further develop our platform, customer pipeline and IP strategy" said Eric Smith, the company's Co-Founder and CEO. "We're building momentum in the mobile space since the announcement of our relationship with Q2eBanking in October of 2011." 

“The market has risen to meet Unwired Nation over this past year, and the company has all the right resources in place now to dramatically scale the work they are doing to help companies extend their successful web applications and products to native mobile apps,” said Dale Quisenberry, co-founder of Austin-based Crossroads Systems and lead investor in Unwired Nation’s financing. Prior Angel investments of Quisenberry’s include NovaCentrix. 

Quisenberry, who joins the Unwired Nation board of directors, is one of several key investors and advisors who see the promise of Unwired Nation and are investing time and capital to help the company grow. Two other investors of note are Eric Simone, a Venture Partner in Corsa Ventures and an early investor in BazaarVoice, and Irl Nathan, an early executive with Houston-based Bindview that went public in 1998 and present investor in Caringo, among others. Several high profile advisors also work with Unwired Nation including Steve Vandegrift (Pipeline Success), Geoff Tudor (HP) and Justin Halloran (WhaleShark). 

The Company was formed in 2008 when the Company's founders acquired the assets of Unwired Nation, Inc , a previously venture funded startup having raised $8M to develop its notification platform and intellectual property. 

Correction: In a pervious release, it was noted that the Company's funding round was $6.5M. This was in error, as it included an additional funding traunch that the Company's board has elected not to pursue.

Unwired Nation Announces Acquisition by Company Founders

As of July 30, 2008, UWN Acquisition Corporation has closed the transaction to purchase key assets of Unwired Nation, Inc. 

UWN Acquisition Corporation's Founders were the original founders in Unwired Nation. The Company will operate under the DBA "Unwired Nation,Inc." continuing to serve its key customers eBay inc. (Powering eBay Phone Alerts), and Uship with actionable voice notifications, as it pivots its business to focus on on the emerging opportunities in mobile apps. 

"We are excited to begin this new chapter. We believe strongly in Unwired's core business, and think that we've only begun to scratch the surface with what's possible in this space" said Eric Smith, the company's Co-Founder and CEO said. 

"What we're buying today are the core assets, contracts and IP of the company. Most importantly, the engineering team that was responsible for developing Unwired's software and IP will be joining the new company going forward" said Stacey Zuniga, the company's Co-Founder and VP of Product.
